Love Lobotomy

Today, I have realized some thoughts on love.
  • Love effinly depends on the aesthetic value of one's face and curves.
  • When you have the bucks, you're first in line.
  • It starts with a friend request and ends with a race on who's going to block the accounts of each other first.
  • Monthsaries are made for those who can not make it to anniversaries.
  • Infidelity is a trend. The more, the merrier!
  • It is like the Olympics, more GOLD, more LOVE.
Sounds bitter? Whatever. You can say what you want.

Culture and Language

1.    Why do we need to study communication and culture on our chosen field?

We view communication as the exchange and flow of information and ideas from one person to another; it involves a sender transmitting an idea, information, or feeling to a receiver. Culture, on the other hand is the summation of one’s beliefs, customs, practices, and social behavior of a particular nation or people.
|Then why, as a teacher, do we need to study it?
As a future educator in the field of Special Education, I do believe that good communication skills is one of the major component on why learning takes place. It paves the way for the information from the book and the experiences to the minds of the students. Without it, the students cannot comprehend what the lesson will be all about especially in my case, because I will be handling exceptional students that need a remarkable amount of skills in communication.
Moreover, knowing one’s own culture is of utmost importance because this is where we belong. Once you are fully adept with your own culture, you now can relate to other culture and understand others, which is a very essential in teaching a multicultural class.

2.    In your own words, how would you define culture?
I see culture as a collation of art, music, literature, humanities, tradition, beliefs, rules of behavior, language, rituals, technology, styles of dress, ways of producing and cooking food, religion, and political and economic systems that a group of people share. It is like a blueprint, etched in their DNA that distinguishes them from other group of people.

3.    How is language interrelated to culture?

Through the use of language, culture does not remain stagnant; it evolves, it can be shared, and learned. And through culture, language progresses.

4.      Explain cultural relativism.

Cultural relativism is the view that all beliefs, customs, and ethics are relative to the individual within his own social context. In other words, “right” and “wrong” are culture-specific; what is considered moral in one society may be considered immoral in another, and, since no universal standard of morality exists, no one has the right to judge another society’s customs.
We related or judge other cultures with our own culture as the basis of what the epitome of culture is. We frown at the idea of divorce, but in other countries, it is widely accepted.

Dog Eaters

By Randy David

I.                  Theme
The essay concentrates on the topic of journalism, particularly on the dog meat trade and other sensitive topics.

II.             Form and Structure
It follows an inductive form, wherein the main or general idea is generalized in the last part and then supporting details are found in the opening paragraphs.

III.         Mode and Tone
The mode and tone of the essay is tensed and traumatizing.

IV.            Type
Dog Eaters is an example of an informal essay, because the style is personal and expresses the experience of the author in watching the documentaries and news. It was as if the author is talking to his readers face to face.

V.                Reaction
Dog Eaters is a reminder that journalists should keep in mind the sensibilities of their audience. Yes, they aim for transparency in their work, but why let the viewers see the brutalization of a topic, when they can let their creative juices flow and discuss a sensitive topic like dog eating and massacres in a humane way? In that manner, audiences will not be bothered by disturbing images of blood, internal organs and the like. On the other hand, I commend the author for his vivid description and his unconventional point of view towards his argument in journalism.

The Egg Caldo Challenge

6:00 a.m. Welcome to Sison, Pangasinan!

Bago matulog, BUSOG. Pagkagising, GUTOM! Nag-stop over kami sa isang kaininan sa Sison, Pangasinan. Diretso sa banyo. Pagkatapos, napagkasunduan naming bumili ng Arroz Caldo. Nakakapanghalina kasi yung menu – parang fine dining:
  • Plain Caldo         -------- 35
  • Egg Caldo            ------- 40
  • Chicken Caldo   -------- 45

Sus! Pwede namang Plain Goto, Goto with Egg o kaya Goto with Chicken. May pag caldo pang nalalaman. Di man lang ininit. Wala na tuloy kaming nagawa kundi magbayad ng forty pesos kahit labag sa aming loob. (Paalam, forty pesos! L )

Nakakuha kami ng lamesa malapit sa pwesto nina Ma’am B, Sir Luis at Kuya JC.
Unang subo, parang baby food. Pangalawang subo.. pangatlo.. pang-apat. GAAAH.

Medyo trapik. May inaayos kasing kalsada.

Your Holy-ness

˜SPIRITUALITY

5:00-7:00 pm It was just of those boring classroom period where the teacher then asks you a question that would send you a thousand bolts within your system, which your once sluggish body is now on guard.
|What is your spirituality?”
I was taken aback. My neurons are on double time mode. Our professor just said something about spirituality and it is something that pertains to a desire driven by urge to do something. Desire driven by urge to do something. What? Desire? Oh, I’m having thoughts that are inappropriate again.
|What am I longing for?”
Yes. I aspire to graduate in this university I am currently enrolled. Once I graduate I would enroll myself immediately in a graduate studies program, and find a stable job that would serve as sustenance in our daily living. I would like to pay all the debts that keep on bringing us down for years.
I want to make them proud, in many other ways than any child could do to her parents. I want their hearts be bursting with joy whenever someone would mention my name. I do not want them to regret all those times when I refuse to do household chores and other things such as requesting to make the radio they are listening to be on low, merely because I am studying. And lastly, I do not want to see again the look in their face when I graduated without making it to the honors list.
I grew up in a family where being the first is not one of the options. IT IS THE ONLY CHOICE. My father’s mother side are those we commoners call crème de la crème. Lawyer of a late president, UP graduates, businessmen, professors, and some have made their names in the other side of the world. One has his own university in Bulacan, and another made the Fernandez Street in UP Diliman an honor for us. My mother’s family though poverty-stricken, did not make that as an excuse to hamper their burning desire to persevere and graduate. Most of my aunts and my mother are teachers.
So maybe you understand now why I am like this. It is not because I am forced to do it, (though somehow it does) but I want to do it. Not just to make my clan proud of me, but to utilize this talent that God has given to me.
And what better way can I accomplish these aspirations of mine? To be the best.
Now I remember. My spirituality is to give 200% effort in everything that I do. Not just for me, for my parents, but for God, because He is the reason for everything. He validated my whole existence. He gave me such wonderful family, friends and society. What more can I ask for? As far as I am concerned, despite of my shortcomings, He never forgets to wake me up every single day. J

My life --in a more sensible way

Just when I was in the midst of thinking about my plans after I graduate, our professor required us to pass our plan for the rest of our lives. I think maybe it is because for us to reflect on the things we are currently occupied into and those important decisions we have to perform that needs proper consideration. To make it simpler and more organized, I preferred to categorize it by my age. So here it is:

At the age of 21, I should be:

- A licensed professional with dignity and high moral values
- Enrolled in a graduate school
- Regularly teaching in a public school
- Part-time faculty in a University
- Registered in a gym
- Giving my parents a helper (my mom requested it)

At 25, I should be:

- Gradually reconstructing our house
- Done with my thesis writing or dissertation
- A car owner
- Focusing on improving myself
- Living my single life to the fullest e.g. out of town with family
- Seeking the help of a doctor with my heart problem
- Working on with my visa

At my early 30’s, I should be:

- A doctor of education already
- A principal or a supervisor, district or division
- Or if not, I should be working out of the country and petition my parents to live there with me
- Buying my own house
- Helping those people who have paved the way to where I am now, e.g. Paying the tuition fees of my cousins
- Focusing in having my own family (Oh Gosh. :|)

When I turn 35, I should be:

- A franchise owner of any fast food chain.  preferably McDonald's :">
 - Enrolled again in any graduate course

At my forties, I should be:
- A school owner, preferably a SPED institution, co-owned with my parents and colleagues

60’s onwards, I should be:

- Enjoying my retirement. Just sipping cup of joes everyday, while watching sunrise.   :)

Ahhh. It's a great feeling knowing that my life is sort of organized. <3
